Meredith A. Carlo has experience representing clients on brand management, licensing, commercial contracts and technology matters, as well as counseling clients on intellectual property matters, including trademark, copyright, trade secret and unfair competition.

Practice Areas


Counsel clients on all aspects of trademark portfolio management, including trademark clearance, registration, maintenance and enforcement.


Draft, structure and negotiate various agreements, including software license, development, maintenance and escrow agreements, software as a service agreements, technology license agreements, non-disclosure agreement and technical service agreements.

Commercial Contracts

Draft, review and negotiate all types of commercial contracts, including transactional agreements, purchase and sale agreements, student life contracts, vendor agreements, athletic contracts, finance agreements, facility use agreements, joint venture agreements, reseller agreements, distributor agreements, joint research agreements, equipment lease and maintenance, liability waivers and releases, donor agreements, and numerous others.


Draft, structure and negotiate internet advertising agreements, software license agreements, website terms and conditions, website privacy policies, website disclaimer statements, website development agreements and linking agreements.


Draft and negotiate patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret licenses and assignments.


Participation in all aspects of the litigation process, including preparing motions, briefs and discovery requests.


Counsel clients on “work for hire” and other copyright issues.

Trade Secrets

Counsel clients on the identification, protection and enforcement of trade secrets. Assist clients with confidentiality agreements, employee agreements, workplace manuals and other policies relating to protecting and maintaining trade secret rights.

Previous Experience

Prior to joining Alexander DeGance Barnett, Meredith worked more than nine years for the Washington, D.C. office of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP in the intellectual property and technology practice group where she represented clients in contracts, licensing and litigation matters.

Outside of the Office

Meredith has three children, Katherine, Kevin and Quinn. Born and raised in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C. she now calls Jacksonville home. Meredith loves taking advantage of the Jacksonville weather and she enjoys spending time at the beach with family and friends.
